Quick At-Home Fixes for Dry Hair
If you’r
e getting ready for a date tonight and notice that your hair is dry, brittle, and lifeless, what are you going to do? You could run to the drugstore to pick up your favorite deep conditioner, but if you don’t have time for that, there are probably some items in your kitchen you can use to moisturize your hair quickly and simply. These all-natural, food-based hair conditioners might seem a little gross at first, but they’ll definitely do the trick.
1. One conditioning mask is based on honey, which is a humectant that attracts moisture, and egg yolks, which have cholesterol, a highly moisturizing compound, in them. Simply mix a tablespoon of honey, two tablespoons of olive or avocado oil, and one egg yolk in a bowl. If you want, you can warm it up for a few seconds in the microwave.
Gently massage the mixture into your hair, focusing on the roots. If you have a dry or itchy scalp, though, this could also be soothing for that. Wrap your hair up in a shower cap or plastic wrap, and let the mixture sit for half an hour. When you get in the shower, rinse it out and wash thoroughly.
2. The second mask uses avocado, which has lots of fat and nutrients for your hair, and mayonnaise, which is made with egg yolks. Simply blend equal amounts of each, smashing up the ripe avocado, and then rub the mixture onto your hair. Again, let it sit in plastic for half an hour before rinsing and shampooing.
If you want to make your hair extra soft and shiny after your deep conditioning treatment, try a special rinse. Blondes can mix a bit of fresh lemon juice with water, and darker-headed women can use apple cider vinegar and water. Just make sure you use the rinse before you shave, or it will sting your legs!
